Oystercatchers and eastern curlews

The oystercatcher family are really looking after themselves well now and travelling further afield.

As they are now travelling down to Fishermans Bay it gave me a chance to catch up with how the curlews are doing.

It was fascinating watching the curlew dig deep into the sand flats and come up with a nipper. From there it massaged the nipper along its beak until the claw came off, then the nipper was straight down the hatch. Hope you enjoy the video.

Our journey of discovery managing a beach nesters breeding site.

21 September 2015 we found a pair of eggs sitting on the Deeban Spit beach. Thus our crazy journey began. So much to learn.

The opinions expressed in this blog are my own.

So much thanks goes to Sutherland Shire Council, Birdlife Australia and  NSW Office of Environment and Heritage as they have supplied equipment and research required to help ensure our shorebirds, resident or migratory, can survive into the future.
