The 6 week journey

Today was the hottest day of the season at 38 degrees. It took its toll on the chick. Even though it was hiding out in one of the chick shelters for shade it was still panting. It couldn't wait to get off the beach and back to the mangroves.

I allocate times for our volunteers to come to the beach to help with the chick crossing through the lagoon and leave a 15 minute window at the beginning and end of shifts. Because of the heat the chick didn't allow us the window. We were scrambling to place everyone so we could clear the lagoon with the birds impatiently pacing on the shore. The minute we cleared the lagoon the chick was off.

Tonight the chick is now 6 weeks old. It appeared out of the egg on Sunday 25 November.

I thought I would put together a video made up of daily photos/videos to show how the chick has grown.

Our journey of discovery managing a beach nesters breeding site.

21 September 2015 we found a pair of eggs sitting on the Deeban Spit beach. Thus our crazy journey began. So much to learn.
