The unseasonal weather is causing confusion

High tide bird count this morning at 9.00am. There were 5 eastern curlews and 1 pied oystercatcher at the Deeban Spit end.

They were disturbed by someone jumping off their boat and took flight. The Oyk headed down towards the Basin end, where another pair of Oyks were already resting.

The Oyk pair promptly started charging Solo Oyk, and along with their combined trumpet calls and chasing, led the solo Oyk back down to the pointy end of the Spit.

Being territorial at this time of year is a surprise. Certainly looks like we'll have another nesting happen this Spring.

Our journey of discovery managing a beach nesters breeding site.

21 September 2015 we found a pair of eggs sitting on the Deeban Spit beach. Thus our crazy journey began. So much to learn.

The opinions expressed in this blog are my own.

So much thanks goes to Sutherland Shire Council, Birdlife Australia and  NSW Office of Environment and Heritage as they have supplied equipment and research required to help ensure our shorebirds, resident or migratory, can survive into the future.
