Went looking for the spare pair of Oystercatchers at high tide, but there were two Lapwings sitting there today. May be a ploy or a Halloween trick to dress up like Lapwings so you don't get harassed by the other pair of Oystercatchers.
Had a dog walker back on the beach today. Caught up with them and explained that because there are so few beaches left that have migratory birds and beach nesters our beach had to be dog free. She had seen our No Dogs signs so to her that meant pick the dog up and carry it through the No Dog "zone". Oh dear.
I think our letterbox drop to the Maianbar residents has done a lot of good and next year we should think about making it a Maianbar and Bundeena letterbox drop as most of the dog walkers these days are coming from Bundeena. We should also think about getting a story in the Shire Council newsletter in August of next year that reiterates which beaches are good for dogs and which are the no go zones to gear people up for the arrival of the migratory birds and start of nesting season.
The box of hair John Perkins sent up arrived today so this was installed in stockings along the beach where the fox tracks have been spotted along with some small red blinking lights that are meant to imitate what an eye looks like at night when light hits it. So hopefully this will have the fox confused enough to stay away. Will leave this system up for a while and then maybe change the red blinky lights out for a motion sensor solar powered LED light. Mixing things up could be a good thing so it doesn't get used to things and realise they are harmless.
The campground was filling up quickly, so could be an interesting weekend.
