Just had to include the following which came from Geetha. It made me laugh as we are finding that hairdressers think we are nuts, so our hair search is going slowly.
The storms were much further north, which was a huge relief. Our mum didn't have to sit it out too long. I was actually more worried about the two tawny frog mouth babies sitting in the nest next door, but the wind missed them too fortunately.
Found two more palm frond ends which will be perfect for chick shelters if we get our eggs up this time. Not sure which type of palm it is. I thought is was the cabbage tree, but the ends that attach to the trunk for cabbage tree are quite soft when they come off. The ones I am searching for have a really hard woody end that attaches to the trunk. They look to be the right tunnel shape and will do chicks for their first two weeks and then the chicks will be too big and we will need to rethink what to use. I'm thinking might put out a call on Bundeena/Maianbar buy trade sell for some spare bricks or besser blocks which we can stack and cover with sand to camouflage and create a small tunnel for them close to waters edge where they need them.
The following from Geetha:
Hello Julie,
I just returned from a human hair search. Still not very successful I am afraid. I have returned to the same shop three times in a row and each time they claim that they forgot to keep the hair aside for me. I approached a new hairdresser today and explained the situation. They wanted to see my name card etc, which I don't have. Anyway, a customer of theirs who was there to have her hair cut really short overheard my story. She turned around and asked them to cut her ponytail to give it to me (I have attached the photo). I was really shocked and so touched by this gesture.
How very sweet! So for now, I am left with this beautiful ponytail.
Thought I should share this story with you.
